About us

gaiac Research Institute

We are a research institute in the form of a registered association, founded in 2003 as a spin-off from the Institute for Environmental Research. Our focus is on applied ecological and ecotoxicological research.

Who we are

The gaiac team currently consists of a total of 28 strongly committed employees, mainly biologists, supported by biological technical assistants and team assistants. In larger, seasonal projects, the team is expanded as needed by student assistants.

gaiac is steered by the executive board together with the managing director. We are a legally independent research institute and are affiliated to RWTH Aachen University as a so-called “An-Institut”. In particular, we work in close cooperation in research and teaching with the Institute for Environmental Research at RWTH Aachen University. In addition, we cooperate with other institutes of RWTH Aachen in various fields of research. Our research activities are accompanied by an advisory board of external experts from universities, authorities and industrial companies.
