The implementation of climate protection goals and the development of climate adaptation strategies in the face of increasing land use in the context of demographic change are the major challenges facing municipal settlement and open space planning in the future. In the context of the latter, the protection and development of ecological assets is of major importance. gaiac, as a research institute for ecosystem analysis and assessment, is a partner in inter- and transdisciplinary joint projects for the creation of knowledge and decision-making bases.

Creating transparency - targeted data consolidation and visualisation using geographic information systems (GIS)
The basis for a dialogue on sustainable settlement and open space development is the consolidation and analysis of data relevant to regional planning as well as their transparent presentation. gaiac develops databases with linked geographic information systems that can be integrated into the respective municipal structures for permanent use after the end of the project.
