On behalf of Eurofins Hygiene Institut Berg GmbH, the gaiac research institute is once again investigating the Blausteinsee, a lignite mining lake near Eschweiler. The purpose of the monitoring is to document the condition of the lake, which is filled with iron-bearing sump water from the Inden open-cast mine to prevent the water level from dropping. Sampling will take place both during the spring circulation and during the summer months in the stratified lake. In addition to physico-chemical depth profiles, the zooplankton and phytoplankton in the individual water layers will be determined and quantified.
